Welcome to the Members Area!

Hello and welcome to the Breaking Ballet Programme. I’m delighted you have joined the virtual studio and can’t wait to work alongside you during your 8 week Programme.

What happens next?

On your scheduled start day you will have access to all the videos. However, please do not rush in and start the workouts immediately. First, you will need to:

1. Join the Breaking Ballet Facebook Group

Make sure you join the Facebook group. This is where you will meet your fellow ballet bodies and where I will be during the Sarah’s Surgery and weekly Live sessions to answer any questions and provide you with all the support you need. Click on the link below and request to join the group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/BreakingBallet/

During Sarah’s Surgery and each of the Live sessions, you will be able to post your questions in the Question Box which is the ‘pinned post’ at the top of the group wall. I will then answer these questions in this box. This way, if you miss any of the live sessions you will be able to find the questions and answers easily, without having to trawl through everyone’s comments on the wall.

Please try to avoid sending me questions via email or Facebook Messenger. This is a group workout programme and I encourage you all to share your views with each other. The Breaking Ballet Group is intended to be a positive, happy, inspiring and supportive environment. I want you to feel like you are part of a warm, friendly and fun class of people, who are all beginning their ballet fitness journey with you. Please keep all comments positive. By all means if you need a kick up the bum to get going or to maintain what you are doing, ask me and your classmates for help and encouragement. Please feel free to share posts, videos and photographs to motivate and inspire your classmates.

2. View and download the Breaking Ballet workout calendar

This calendar contains all the important dates for your 8-week workout programme, including the dates of Sarah’s Surgery, the Live Facebook sessions and your recommended workout plan. This calendar is to help you ease into the routines as you start your Breaking Ballet journey.

Please print and read through the calendar carefully and if necessary make some changes to it so that you can be sure to complete your workouts and provide yourself with the best chance of progressing through each week without missing any sessions. If you know your Monday’s are usually hectic and you are unlikely to fit in all (or any) of the workouts, then use that as a rest day and move those workouts to another day where you have more time. The more time you spend on this calendar at the beginning of the programme, the less time you will spend over the coming weeks working out when you are going to fit these workouts in, or feeling guilty for not having done so. It is invaluable preparation time to ensure you get the most out of the programme.

3. Find a suitable space to do your workouts

You will need a yoga mat for comfort during the floor exercises and the back of a chair/table/worktop/wall that you can hold on to for barre work. Ideally, you will hold onto something that is waist height. You will also need a clear space (preferably not carpeted) in which to move. Organise this space before you start the programme, so that you are not wasting precious workout time moving furniture and trying to locate your mat!

4. Watch the Ballet Bites videos

You will have access to the videos from your scheduled start date by clicking on ‘My Videos’ after logging in to the Member’s Area. You MUST watch the Ballet Bites BEFORE starting any of the workouts, to ensure you are aware of correct technique and to ensure you are gaining as much benefit as possible from the workouts.

5. Join Sarah’s Surgery

Join the scheduled live session with me in the Breaking Ballet Facebook Group towards the end of week 1 to ask questions before you start the programme. Get live help with posture, technique, alignment and any other issues.

6. Complete the programme!

Once you have mastered the correct technique and planned your workouts carefully using the calendar in week 1, you will be ready to start the programme. Try not to do too much too soon. Take your time to work out a schedule in advance and try to stick to it. But if you need to reassess once you have started the workouts then do that as soon as you can. Keep it manageable. Focus on what your body can do, rather than on what it can’t do, or what it looks like. Start with a healthy relationship with your body and try to enjoy the workouts.
